Subarus, Atlantics Provide Scholarship Funding

The Steele Subaru U18 Major hockey club, and the 2024 U18 Atlantics host committee have contributed $4000 to local scholarships. As part of their commitment to host Atlantics this season, the Subarus committed extra revenue from the event as donations to the Bill Riley Scholarship ($2000), and the Hollingsworth Family Award ($2000).

The Bill Riley Scholarship, a $2000 scholarship, will be presented annually to a graduating player in Nova Scotia of African descent who plans to pursue a post-secondary education after high school. Like Riley, the recipient should be a driven, hard-working student who is passionate about hockey.

The Hollingsworth Family Award was established by Paul Hollingsworth BA’94. During his first year at Saint Mary’s, Paul lost his brother Bryce to mental illness. The Saint Mary’s community supported Paul through his degree and through his loss, helping him grow "armour" against life's challenges. A proud alumnus and advocate for mental health, Paul hopes this award will provide support for students going through a similar loss.

This award will be available to full-time entrance students enrolled in any program, who have faced significant personal adversity with the loss of a sibling or parent. Additional consideration will be given to students with financial need.
